Quick answer: ROI compares outcomes; annualized return (CAGR) makes investments with different timelines comparable.

How to use the ROI Calculator

  1. Enter your figures in the fields above — results update instantly as you type.
  2. Choose your currency symbol (the maths is the same in any currency).
  3. Use Share result to save a link that reloads your exact inputs, or Print for your records.
  4. Compare scenarios by changing one input at a time and noting how the main result moves.

Formula

ROI = (Final − Invested) ÷ Invested × 100 CAGR = (Final ÷ Invested)^(1/years) − 1

Worked example

10,000 grows to 15,000 in 3 years: ROI 50%, annualized about 14.47%.

Frequently asked questions

Why annualize?

A 50% return over 3 years is very different from 50% over 10 years — CAGR puts both on a yearly basis.

What about cash flows in between?

For uneven cash flows use IRR; this calculator assumes one deposit and one withdrawal.
